Plagiarism Screening

Darunnajah in Education (DIE) is committed to maintaining academic integrity and ensuring the originality of all manuscripts submitted for publication. All submitted manuscripts are subject to a plagiarism and similarity screening process before being considered for peer review.

The journal uses an appropriate plagiarism-detection and similarity-checking system to identify similarities between submitted manuscripts and previously published materials, including journal articles, books, conference proceedings, theses, dissertations, websites, and other scholarly sources.

Similarity Threshold

The maximum overall similarity index permitted by Darunnajah in Education (DIE) is 20%.

Manuscripts with a similarity index of 20% or below may proceed to the next stage of the editorial process, subject to editorial assessment and verification of the similarity report.

Manuscripts with a similarity index above 20% will generally be returned to the authors for revision and reduction of inappropriate similarities before proceeding to peer review.

However, the similarity percentage is not the sole basis for determining plagiarism. The editorial team will examine the similarity report, including the sources, location, nature, and context of the matched text.

Screening Procedure

The plagiarism screening process is conducted as follows:

  1. The manuscript is submitted through the journal's OJS system.
  2. The editorial team conducts an initial compliance check.
  3. The manuscript is subjected to a similarity check using an appropriate detection system.
  4. The similarity report is examined by the editorial team.
  5. Manuscripts with an acceptable similarity level and no significant indication of plagiarism proceed to editorial assessment and peer review.
  6. Manuscripts exceeding the 20% similarity threshold may be returned to the authors for revision.
  7. Revised manuscripts may be screened again before entering or continuing the peer-review process.

Exclusions and Editorial Judgment

The editorial team may consider legitimate similarities that do not constitute plagiarism, such as:

  • Bibliographic references;
  • Standard academic terminology;
  • Common methodological expressions;
  • Names of institutions, instruments, or programs;
  • Proper nouns;
  • Mathematical or technical terminology;
  • Correctly cited quotations; and
  • Other unavoidable or appropriately attributed similarities.

Where appropriate, the editorial team may exclude references or other legitimate matches from the similarity assessment to obtain a more meaningful evaluation of textual overlap.

Plagiarism and Academic Misconduct

Plagiarism includes, but is not limited to:

  • Presenting another person's ideas, words, data, or work as one's own without appropriate attribution;
  • Copying substantial portions of text without proper citation;
  • Paraphrasing another author's work without adequate acknowledgment;
  • Reusing substantial portions of one's own previously published work without appropriate disclosure;
  • Submitting substantially similar manuscripts to multiple journals; and
  • Using data, figures, tables, or other intellectual materials without appropriate attribution or permission where required.

If substantial plagiarism or other forms of academic misconduct are identified, Darunnajah in Education (DIE) may reject the manuscript and, where appropriate, take further action in accordance with the journal's Publication Ethics policy.

Post-Publication Concerns

If plagiarism or significant unattributed similarity is discovered after an article has been published, the editorial team will investigate the matter and may take appropriate action, including issuing a correction, expression of concern, or retraction, depending on the severity of the violation.

Authors are fully responsible for ensuring that their manuscripts are original and properly acknowledge all sources used.
