Peer Review Procces

Darunnajah in Education (DIE) applies a rigorous double-blind peer-review process to ensure the quality, originality, academic integrity, and relevance of all manuscripts submitted for publication. In the double-blind review system, the identities of authors and reviewers are concealed from each other throughout the review process.

1. Initial Submission and Editorial Screening

All manuscripts must be submitted through the Open Journal Systems (OJS) of Darunnajah in Education (DIE). Upon submission, the editorial office conducts an initial screening to determine whether the manuscript:

  • Fits the journal's focus and scope;
  • Meets the basic manuscript structure and formatting requirements;
  • Contains sufficient academic and scholarly content;
  • Demonstrates originality and appropriate citation practices;
  • Complies with the journal's publication ethics and research integrity requirements; and
  • Has been prepared using the prescribed manuscript template.

Manuscripts that do not meet the basic requirements may be returned to the authors for correction or rejected without external peer review.

2. Similarity Screening

Manuscripts that pass the initial editorial screening may undergo a similarity check using an appropriate plagiarism-detection system.

The similarity report is evaluated by the editorial team rather than being assessed solely on the basis of a numerical percentage. The editors consider the nature, location, and source of similarities before determining whether a manuscript can proceed to peer review.

Manuscripts containing substantial inappropriate similarity, plagiarism, duplicate publication, or other forms of academic misconduct may be rejected.

3. Editorial Assessment

The Editor-in-Chief or assigned editor evaluates the manuscript's academic relevance, originality, methodological adequacy, theoretical foundation, and potential contribution to educational scholarship.

At this stage, the editor may reject a manuscript if it does not sufficiently meet the journal's academic standards or falls outside the journal's scope.

4. Selection of Reviewers

Manuscripts that pass the editorial assessment are assigned to qualified reviewers with relevant expertise in the subject area of the manuscript.

DIE normally assigns at least two independent reviewers to each manuscript. Reviewers are selected based on their academic expertise, research experience, publication record, and absence of conflicts of interest.

Whenever possible, reviewers should not be from the same institution as the authors and should have no personal, professional, or financial relationship that could compromise the impartiality of the review.

5. Double-Blind Peer Review

DIE employs a double-blind peer-review system. The identities of the authors are concealed from reviewers, and the identities of reviewers are concealed from authors.

Reviewers are asked to evaluate manuscripts objectively and confidentially, considering the following criteria:

  1. Relevance to the journal's focus and scope;
  2. Originality and novelty;
  3. Clarity of research objectives or questions;
  4. Adequacy of the theoretical or conceptual framework;
  5. Appropriateness and rigor of the research methodology;
  6. Quality and clarity of data analysis;
  7. Validity and significance of the findings;
  8. Quality of interpretation and discussion;
  9. Contribution to educational scholarship, policy, or practice;
  10. Quality and relevance of references;
  11. Clarity and organization of the manuscript; and
  12. Compliance with research and publication ethics.

Reviewers may recommend one of the following decisions:

  • Accept
  • Accept with Minor Revisions
  • Major Revisions
  • Reject

The final editorial decision is not determined solely by the recommendation of an individual reviewer.

6. Revision Process

When revisions are required, authors must revise the manuscript in accordance with the reviewers' and editor's comments.

Authors may be required to submit:

  • A revised manuscript; and
  • A detailed Response to Reviewers explaining how each substantive comment has been addressed.

The revised manuscript may be returned to the original reviewers for further evaluation when the editor considers additional review necessary.

7. Editorial Decision

After considering the reviewers' evaluations, the revised manuscript, and the overall quality of the submission, the editor makes the final editorial decision.

Possible decisions include:

Accept – The manuscript meets the journal's requirements and may proceed to publication.

Minor Revision – The manuscript requires limited revisions before acceptance.

Major Revision – Substantial revisions are required, and the manuscript may undergo another round of peer review.

Reject – The manuscript does not meet the journal's academic, methodological, ethical, or scope requirements.

The Editor-in-Chief retains final responsibility for publication decisions.

8. Timeliness of Review

DIE aims to conduct the review process efficiently while maintaining rigorous academic standards. Reviewers are expected to complete their evaluations within the timeframe specified by the editorial office.

If a reviewer is unable to complete a review within the agreed period, the editorial office may appoint another qualified reviewer to avoid unnecessary delays.

9. Reviewer Confidentiality

Reviewers must treat submitted manuscripts as confidential documents. Manuscripts and associated materials must not be shared, copied, distributed, or used for personal research purposes without permission from the editorial office and the authors.

Reviewers must not disclose their identity to authors or attempt to identify the authors of a manuscript under double-blind review.

10. Conflict of Interest

Reviewers must disclose any actual, potential, or perceived conflict of interest before accepting an assignment.

A reviewer should decline the review if they:

  • Have a close personal or professional relationship with the authors;
  • Work at the same institution as an author;
  • Have a direct financial or professional interest in the research;
  • Have previously collaborated closely with the authors; or
  • Believe that their impartiality could reasonably be questioned.

11. Reviewer Recommendations and Editorial Independence

Reviewer recommendations are advisory. The editorial team evaluates reviewer reports collectively and makes decisions based on the manuscript's scholarly quality, methodological rigor, originality, relevance, and contribution.

Where reviewer recommendations conflict, the editor may request an additional independent review before reaching a decision.

12. Appeals

Authors who believe that an editorial decision was based on a significant misunderstanding, factual error, or procedural irregularity may submit a formal appeal to the editorial office.

Appeals must provide clear and substantive reasons and should not simply disagree with the reviewers' academic judgment.

The editorial office will assess the appeal independently and may seek additional expert advice where appropriate. The decision following the appeal will be communicated to the authors by the editorial team.

13. Publication

Once a manuscript has been accepted, it proceeds to copyediting, proofreading, layout, and final production.

The corresponding author may be contacted during the production stage to verify the final version of the article. Any substantive changes after acceptance require approval from the editorial office.

The final article is subsequently published online according to the journal's publication schedule.
