Abstract

Abstract

The establishment of the Nusantara Daya Anagata Investment Management Agency (BPI Danantara) on February 24, 2025, marked a significant transformation in the governance and management of state assets in Indonesia. Danantara was granted a strategic mandate to optimize government investments and the assets of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), while coordinating the functions of operational and investment holdings in order to create long-term economic value. This study aims to analyze the role of Danantara as a sovereign wealth fund in optimizing the allocation of SOE assets and to examine its impact on the Indonesian capital market. The study employs a qualitative approach using a literature review and descriptive analysis of scholarly journal articles, institutional reports, as well as relevant capital market data and information. Literature on sovereign wealth funds indicates that the effectiveness of state wealth fund management is strongly influenced by the quality of governance, transparency, portfolio diversification, and the appropriateness of asset allocation strategies. Recent studies on Danantara indicate that share allocation and market value are important factors in the long-term success of a sovereign wealth fund, while strengthening governance is one of the key prerequisites for investment optimization. From the capital market perspective, several event studies indicate that the establishment and launch of Danantara have generated mixed market responses. Siska et al. (2025) found no statistically significant changes in market returns and trading volume around the launch of Danantara, whereas Danang et al. (2025) found differences in returns before and after the launch, although abnormal returns around the event were not statistically significant. These findings suggest that the impact of Danantara on the capital market remains at an early stage and is highly influenced by investor expectations, information availability, governance, and the clarity of policy implementation. This study concludes that Danantara has the potential to become a strategic instrument for improving the efficiency of SOE asset allocation, strengthening value creation, and promoting capital market deepening. However, the realization of these impacts depends on the implementation of transparent governance, investment diversification strategies, effective risk management, and consistent long-term investment policies.
